I upped the PSI to my tires from 29 to 35 and...

My car actually is quieter! I inflated my tires to 5 PSI under what the sidewall says.

I will see how my gas mileage plays out once I travel to MN again.

Thanks everyone.

When I worked at a local tire shop we always inflated cars to 35. As well as small trucks and suv's/minivans. Bigger stuff pretty much got the sidewall rating.

Overinflated tire = wear in the middle of the tread.

I'll take your words, will keep it at 35 since I am enjoying a more quieter ride now...

Prove it... Or, you need to dispose of bias tires you have and use a modern tire.

I've got my tires at 55/50 (Front/Rear) and have yet to have abnormal wear in nearly 20K miles Plenty of other members will attest the same thing

And that said, the ratings for a tire are for the max sidewall pressure.

I follow the "Always be content, but never satisfied" model

And 55psi isn't a big deal. Search Google for "Factor of Safety" - it's one of the few engineering terms that's to the point in what it is I've been having trouble finding the FoS for modern tires, but bias ply tires were designed with an FoS between 4 and 11 with optimal FoS at 7. That's 7 times what's rated on the side. And, no doubt, modern tires at least meet this criteria. I'm not worried

Plus, added benefit of less tendency to hydroplane (something important to me given my location).
