I want AlMgB14 bearings and rings.

I was doing some reading and came across something interesting. There is a material that is ideal for bearings. It is AlMgB14 (sometimes called BAM) . It has a hardness that is very close to diamond and is slipperier than teflon.

Aluminium magnesium boride - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it looks like a company called Newtech Ceramics has licensed the patent for the material.

It's hard, but would it withstand the beating it would take as a rod bearing? Many materials are hard but prone to shattering, and thus are no good for this type of application.

Thanks for the link though, very interesting.

For harder piston rings you could always go with tool steel rings.
They are pretty hard, I believe you need about a #400 finish on the cylinder bores to break them. Normal bore finish these days is done with #800 grit stones or finer.
