...damnit. Oh well, I guess it'll be cheaper with a 16x2 - I've got one lying around the house somewhere.

While we are waiting for our kits, here is a site for project boxes, and some that look like they might work:

P-1741TX TX Series ABS Plastic Potting Boxes / General Use Electronic Enclosure at Polycase

SL-30P SL Series Slender Profile ABS Electronic Enclosures at Polycase

ID-1741P ID Series Plastic Electronics Enclosures at Polycase

yay! mine works now! that was easy.... almost too easy?

it shows all the menu screens and asked for loads of parameters and stuff.

is it safe to try it on my vehicle now i wonder? i think i did an ok job with the soldering -after all it seems to work.

what are your strategies with fuses and such?

If you are at all worried about it, at a minimum, do some ohm reading tests tests:

I am running mine without a fuse and have had no problems with surge-related issues. Most people have been saying that if you want to use a fuse, you should do that outside the MPGuino so that if it blows you don't have to open the Guino to change it.

There's probably spare room in your car's fuse box. What's the limit on current draw?

Anyone received a kit yet? I've been getting some semi-bizarre notices regarding the status of FL's shipping system being generally borked, but it seems to be in the direction of "this stuff probably shipped sooner than we are saying it did." I ordered on Sept. 30, so I'm getting a little antsy. ;-)

Stuff takes a while from there, not meant as criticism, he has excellent bargains on cool toys and isn't really making much of anything on it. Just the way it is. I ordered a Atmega328 to play with and some zeners on the 30th with the cheap shipping, will probably wait till the end of the week/beginning of next week to bug him directly about it.

LOL, it's just for playing around I've been playing around with avr assembler too, but I may hold those efforts for a more deliberate offering, a-la MPGuino PRO or something.

It's work, but its crazy how much smaller things are with assembler and I think I can get a lot more goodies on even the same 168 chip by losing the bootloader and the C++ toolchain/version dependencies. You might have to actually wire up your LCD "right" to use it though

But I'm not in any rush. The guino fills the gap very nicely as-is, once you get it working, IMHO.
