10,000,000th Ford Mustang Rolls Off the Assembly Line in Flat Rock, Michigan

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/1...an-127697.html

Quote:
Around this time tomorrow, the Ford Motor Company will lift the veils off the 10 millionth Mustang. That’s right, ladies and gents; America’s original pony car now numbers in the 10,000,000s, with production going stronger than ever in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Fords Mustang has been in production since 1964.

That's a lot Mustangs.

Congratulations to Ford.

However...

By comparison the VW type 1 bug was in production from 1938-2003 with a total of 21,529,464 produced.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle

Quote:
By 2002, over 21 million Type 1s had been produced, but by 2003, annual production had dropped to 30,000 from a peak of 1.3 million in 1971. VW announced the end of production in June 2003, citing decreasing demand, and the final original Type 1 VW Beetle (No. 21,529,464 rolled off the production line at Puebla, Mexico, on 30 July 2003,[49] 65 years after its original launch.

Does anyone here think Ford will catch VW in the next 11 years and take the crown ?

I always preferred the Ford Falcon. I took driver's ed in one. I was working in a gas station when a guy stopped in to ask which way to the drag strip and popped the hood to show me a very shiny 427*.

A Mustang was just a Falcon with the cowl set back 6". For less room inside.

edit:* 429?

Why would they push back the cowl?

Eric the Car Guy has been working on a Fairlane for a while. He says that it is a smaller Mustang with the same drivetrain.

Considering the different purposes of the Beetle and Corolla, which were meant to be more functional as an overall commuter than the Mustang, even though its production through 54 years doesn't seem so expressive compared to those of an econobox, it's still a noticeable feat.

Sporty looks.

Originally the Mustang was based on the Falcon, later ones on the Fairlane.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_M...st_generation)
Quote:
The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from March 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition.

It was initially introduced on April 17, 1964, as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale in August 1964. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its underpinnings with the Falcon, was slotted into a compact car segment.

With each revision, the Mustang saw an increase in overall dimensions and in engine power. The 1971 model saw a drastic redesign to its predecessors.
