Smile injector pump leaking on vw diesel

the shaft seal on my IP started leaking, and i went my local diesel injection service and bought a new seal for like 7 bucks. and althought it is not suppose to be possible, i took off the pump pulley while still in the car, picked out the old and drove in the new seal, it ran for several years and began to lose prime over night. so I installed one these after market little thumper 12v fuel pumps just before the filter. thinking i could just turn it on while i was starting in the morning to prime the IP and then go on. but i didn't have to turn it on cause it has a check valve in it and the car has run perfect ever since. see pic.

the injector pump loosing prime like that is apparently from the timing belt not being tensioned correctly, the pump has a simple bushing and if the belt is to tight it will wear it out, not sure if the bushing can be replaced, but the seal is a good fix! better then shelling out $1,000 for a new injector pump, or $700 for a used on, I think I paid $11 for that same seal incase I get the rabbit running.
Honda's with carburators have a brass check valve in their fuel line too... never checked on what exacty it does...
