Tell me more about the failed plastic effort... looks creative... didn't want to trim the filler? Or it just stayed as ugly as a horse's mouth? Haha.

it was so much work filling in the depression after shaving down the excess. became real heavy. figured the amount of money to finish it and was just a few dollars shy for a set of moons. that wasn't considering the time/effort.

replacement moon came in today. found out the rim had a spot that hit an immovable object and caused an uneven area. might have prevented a cohesive joining of the 2 parts. i straightened it using a large metal head connected to a wooden handle. hope this one will ride to the end of the journey.

Renault rims don't seem to pop up at the wreckers very often here.

esp if cooled between beads.
in the video: due to the amount of smoke present, it would be safe to say there was a flame inside. was it flammable, such as fix-a-flat? temps rose steadily until destruction so it appears this was a rigged experiment and was for a specific reason. was the bead welded directly?
and finally, where can I get a robot welder?

well, don't know what to think. lost another moon today. left rear this time. don't see any way to get them to stay on better without it being a big pain in the rear. want quarter turns but what a lot of work/time i don't seem to have.

think i figured it out. lots here and other forums say they fall of real easy and i can vouch for that. here is my "solution":
take tie wire:

attach to rim:

attach to cap:

reattach cap:

now hopefully i will be alerted by the noise they make instead of falling off.
what say ye?
i put a coat of plasti-dip to help with at least 3 mpg.

My chrome steel wheels are starting to rust, so I'm getting closer to just drilling them to use the swap-meet MOON disks I have. I'll need 24 sheet aluminum 1" disks bent double to repair the disks.

What I intend, if and when, is to drill oversized holes and use neoprene washers and pan head screws to try to absorb the movement.

can you post a pic of the moons you have? sounds like they were used for templates somewhere. i might have a fix because i have extra aluminum laying around.
