I know that's one of the reasons people have used to put down EV's -- too quiet for safety. Honestly, if you're in a position to be harmed by the EV on the street, hearing it coming might not make any difference if it had an ICE. (Ex: kids playing in street, jaywalker, guy asleep behind wheel)

the only time I wish my electric car made some sound is when I back up and people almost walk in to the side of it in a parking lot, the beeping back up light is tempting at times.

ok... i have a 1.8L engine with a stock exhaust, if i'm driving down a city street at 25mph does anybody REALLY think it's going to be heard from in front of it? my car is basically as quiet as a hybrid unless i'm revving the engine... besides going down most city streets i have the engine off.

That's actually what I was thinking too.

A small amount of noise for backing up from a parking space is a good thing. I wish I had kept the beeper from the forklift!!! It's the one thing I forgot to strip off! - I do still have the strobe light....

Heehee.

Here's my Instructable.
Homemade exhaust for your old lawnmower - Instructables - DIY, How To, offbeat, ride

Slightly noiser than an EV.

I plan on using this lawnmower engine for a bicycle sidecar power unit.

That lawnmower muffler is great. A friend of mine did almost the exact same thing a while back.

Looks sporty too!
