Looks cool! Thanks for posting it. But it is 25" long, 11" wide, and almost an even inch tall. They would be a bit of a aero drag. Two would be $200 before shipping and then there would be other hardware to buy. But, of course, I'm thinking I want one or two as well. I wonder if they could be mounted on a trunk (where there is already plenty of draggy dead air). I wonder if I could keep people from stealing them?

Calculators: standard deviation, Ohms Law, & drag HP losses.

20W (or 40 if you buy two) is just about right to keep the battery topped off if you don't drive for a while, but you can't really run anything on that sort of power.. even a modest radio will consume more power than that I would think..

Here is a list of how much power accessories draw, post a while ago (and for a Metro):
Tested: power draw of Geo Metro accessories & systems (volts, current/amps, watts)

What if the alternator were on a switch, as some have suggested on this forum? Under sunny conditions with a car that draws less power in general and none for accessories, put the alternator on a clutch and let the panel maintain. Let the battery recharge while the car sits at work all day. Use the alternator if necessary. Maybe?

Even if it's not enough to power the whole car, it should reduce the drag on the alternator pulley right? Getting supplemental charging power should help out some...

Oh! I counted it as centimeters by mistake. 2.5mm is very thin alright.
