knock knock. who's there? Its 30 mpg. come on in!

I went to visit a friend in NJ, 96 mile trip one way. I left home at 1am saturday near zero traffic can't say the same for the return trip speed limits range from 35 to 55 on the route I took. same methods I have been using EOC, 0 idleing, P&G when I can.

My fill method: I listen for the fuel pump to whine then I add 4 gal, that usually gets me 100 miles till the pump starts to whine again. Knowing I was taking the trip I added 8.4 gal when the pump started to whine, I drove about 50 miles before the trip and at 270 miles the pump started to whine again I had hoped to get 30 mpg on long distance trips but I wasn't sure if I could pull it off, My new goal is 35mpg on the same trip. I have a few mods to do yet so I think this is a reasonable goal.

The return trip was very aggravating I had to leave sat at 8 pm, with single lane rural roads maintaining the speed limit isn't an option unless I pull over and let every car that is behind me pass. and no matter how fast I go someone is always riding my bumper I did notice that if move to the center turning lane and signal to turn, other drivers will eagerly pass without me having to stop, once they all pass I move back into the travel lane.

Many thanks to this site, the information and ideas from the people here!

I like the suicide lane trick - I may have to try that someday.

Not that many back roads around here have turn lanes, however.

Careful, though. I pulled into the turn lane once in North Little Rock, used my signals and everything, to let an aggessive/possibly-drunk driver pass me, and ended up with a $95 ticket for my trouble. It might have been fought, but it was cheaper in the long run to pay for it, rather than lose more to lost time/work.
Occifer Friendly didn't care to hear my story about letting an unsafe driver pass, and didn't seem all that concerned about the other driver at all. I guess the square (me) was an easier target.
