LC-1, O2, & ECU on 1986 Carb Engine

1986 Honda Accord LX (carburetor).
i'm adding a wideband O2 sensor and LC-1.

did my OEM O2 sensor really do anything besides light the check engine light?
what would this old O2 sensor tell my old ECU?

it's a carbureted engine, so it's not like it controls injectors...

Interesting, I did not know that Carburetor got any ECU. And again, why are you adding wideband? There is no need to pay extra for something that might even won’t work at all. The Oxygen sensor is primary for A/F ratio. In your case I don’t think it would do any difference. Keep us posted in case it do, I’m curious

my 1986 accord LX had a stock O2 sensor (Bosch PN: 12050) and it has a wire that leads somewhere where i don't want to chase it. i hooked-up an analog lead from the LC-1 to the stock O2 wire. i use the serial connection to my laptop as the free wideband gauge. i then installed the wideband sensor.

i updated the LC-1 firmware and programmed the two analog leads.
i added the LC-1, calibrated with free-air, i checked timing, tuned the car, lowered idle RPMS to 600rpms.

i burn very lean when idling (i think >20%).
while driving, at almost any speed under 3,000 RPMs i'm practically on 14.7%.
the digits flutter between 14.x% and 15.0%.

i bought the wideband so it can tell me when things may not be efficient... just my own visual like my vac gauge.

i am curious about the stock O2 sensor and it's purpose on a carbed engine.

I had a carbureted '88 Accord EX 5-speed. Probably also had an O2 sensor, but I wasn't aware of it. Didn't mod that car very much aside from VX rims.

I'm pretty sure the sensor is upstream of the catalytic converter - otherwise I'd say it was there to keep an eye on the cat's operation.

Ahead of the cat... as you say, it could just be there to set off a check engine light if the mixture goes too far out of spec.

i'm not a mechanic, but i thought this is one thing to let me know if i have issues... like my VAC gauge.
basically, if i use the location of the OEM O2 sensor... i used the wrong location and need to bung the proper location?
