Local Motors

Local Motors is the first world wide online automotive community focused on designing and selling cars. Go there and support/submit your ideas on car designs, maybe a new "Metro" could come to be. Also if your a good artist, a automotive designer etc. you can submit your designs to projects in the works, or set up your own projects so other people can help out. I think good things can happen there. They conservative by using some parts from already existing cars. Support is needed for the ecomodding philosophy simple, practical car designs.

Sorry if I shouldn't have put this here.

Yes

This probably as good a place to post as any.

I've posted links to Local Motors in various threads here and there. Did you notice that they partner with corporations like Freightliner and Dominoes Pizza? They had a competition to design a door handle for the Edison VLC, which is the subject of several threads here. Seimens put up $6000 for the winning design.

From memory—they had 24 entries (not bad odds). I can't confirm that; they've redesigned the website. I find it very hard to navigate.

The site doesn't seem that hard to navigate, it's kind of simple as long as you click the forge tab first.
I'm working on getting support for a 3-cylinder affordable car project mirroring the Metro's concept of simplicity, and featuring the Smart fortwo engine. No support yet, sadly.

One problem with 3 cylinder engines is that they vibrate even worse than 4 cylinder engines do. I think manufacturers avoided them for a while because people didn't like cars that vibrate, though certain manufacturers (like Ford) have come up with clever solutions to avoid balance shafts which can hurt economy.

I thought it was traditional to pushback against site redesigns. I haven't found things I used to find. :(

Can you provide a direct link? I'd like to see it. I just lurk there so I won't jump on and try to drum up support (before I see it). If it were me; I'd start with a flat-4 (inherent balance) and longitudinal transaxle. Maybe something like the XR3 Hybrid; an ICE/electric through-the-road hybrid tricycle.

It looks like you're asking someone to do it all for you. Download their Solid Edge Design1 software, up a proposal and ask people to compare and contrast.

Or get up a posse, to make it look like a spontaneous uprising. :)

Their log-in button has a proper URL linked; but their Tags buttons are inop, even though they highlight, even with Javascript unleashed.

How is this supposed to do anything?
Code:

<!-- Project Tags -->
                                <section class="tagBlock" id="projectTags">

                                    <h5 class="icon-b" data-icon="&#x44;">Tags</h5>
                                    <ul class="tags" data-imageid="494092">
                                        <li class='tag'>Other</li><li class='tag'>fun</li><li class='tag'>economical</li><li class='tag'>safe</li><li class='tag'>realistic</li>
                                    </ul>
                                </section>

The software takes a while to learn to use I would imagine. I would buy the program and learn how to use it though it seems like an iffy proposition, as I need support to come at some point as I'm no mechanic, I'll think about that. What do you propose I do with the tags?
