I love reading about alot of the places that you all live in as far as geography road conditions, temperatures and elevations. And how those variables factor in to your hypermiling, but here is a curious question.

Who has the upper hand here;

Some one who has to deal with elevation changes, hills and mountains or someone like myslef who lives @ sea level with hot temperatures all year round and my largest hill being an interstate over pass?

Yeah there are hills everywhere here. They generally are 300' to 500' of elevation change. It's nothing major unless I get stuck in traffic on a steep climb (that is the worst).

I think the weather and the traffic density dictates a lot of the MPG capability. My tanks are almost always a function of the LA traffic I have had to fight. Conversely, I don't have to deal with the MPG-draining harsh winters that others have to mess with.

There's one dude I read about in Colorado at close to 10K feet altitude who has hypermiled his Ford ZX2 to over 100 MPG on a regular basis. He is taking advantage of the high altitude (lean burn for free), the (gentle?) hills for massive EOC, the low traffic density, and his NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) background. He knows aerodynamics and engines by heart, so the ZX2 is practically a tinkertoy to him.

Weather, traffic density, and geography. Bumper to bumper hurts, flats hurt, and the cold hurts. Otoh, clear roads w/ plenty of hills in a warm dry climate are pretty sweet.
