There is a lot of data on retiming the ignition and cam for the Geo Metro if you have a browse, don't know about the others.

sabre - '02 LeSabre Custom
90 day: 23.45 mpg (US)

frontier - '04 Frontier XE
90 day: 18.97 mpg (US)

actually, some engines work more efficiently with a bit of backpressure in the exhaust , but usually anything less than stock is good.
