looking for info on Getrag F35 transmissions

I have a 2002 Saturn L200 five speed car. It has the L61 GM Ecotec 2.2 liter engine and a Getrag F35 transmission. I bought the car with a bad engine because I like the platform and missed driving a stick shift car.

I played with Metros for 8 years or so and really enjoyed them. I went from one extreme to the other with them from how much fuel ecomony to a fun fast light car.

There appears to be three final drive ratios available with this transmission. It is used in many GM products. Lots of different Saab models, Ion Redlines, Cobalt SS and HHR SS.

So my question is does anybody know what has what final drive ratio.

I know the Saturn L200 has the 4.45 final drive, which sucks on the freeway by the way. 2600 rpm @ 60 mph with 195/65-15 tires.

There are two higher sets out there a 4.05 and a 3.82. Of course I would like to find the 3.82 set.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
Andy

Sure it's not the F23?

I have looked quite a bit at this and the gear chart out of my factory service manual lines up perfectly with the F35.

I don't see the ratios in the service manual. But I do see MU3 as the RPO, that would be an F35. L series are such odd ducks. More proof.

But is it really a 4.45 final drive? At least it's got a .70 5th gear (I think?), unlike the .81 ratio in the Vue F23 with a 4.41 final drive, it really spins on the highway.

Yes, but the Vue has 28" tall tires, my L has 25" tall tires.

4.45 it is. Good news is you can tow a trailer up a hill, in fifth gear.

(My digital copy of the manual didn't have the bottom part only the tooth counts - yeah I could have multiplied it all out, but your copy has the ratios.)

My 09 Cobalt XFE has 3.63 & 0.69 5th with the 2.2 with a F23, the F35 was used in the turbo/supercharged versions. 2008 XFE had slightly had 3.84 gears per wiki.

You do realize that wiki is just what people post and is often wrong or not entirely accurate. I have identical transmissions, one from a 2000 Saturn LS and one from a 2002 L200. I also have a complete factory service manual set for the 2002 L series Saturn. Both transmissions are identical and both are Getrag F35 with 4.45 final drive ratios. I have found a Getrag F35 out of a 2003+ Saab 9-3 with a 4.05 final to put in my car.

Something I read about the F35 trans... apparently I’m the Delta chassis cars there were two final drives used, MU3 code and MC2, the Cobalt SS S/C had MC2 which was 4.05 and the Ion Redline has the MU3(3.82)... they switched all F35s to the MU3 ratio in 2008 starting with the LNF Cobalt and HHR from what I read...
