Looking for a new family car....

...and is it too much to ask to find something that gets 30 mpg highway and can tow up to 2,500 pounds?

I mean my wifes old Chevy Malibu gets 28 mpg highway and is rated at being able to tow up to 1,000 pounds.

With the green kick everyone seems to be on I figured some of those crossovers and mid sized SUVs would be getting better FE.

I'm not even going to be towing things that often or that far but we want to get a small pop-up camper but really don't feel like getting a big SUV and having a lousy 22mpg highway.

I'd think about getting an old pickup truck as a separate tow vehicle so my wife could get a car with decent FE but North Carolina has a per vehicle state tax and I don't feel like paying that on 3 cars when the tow vehicle would only be used once and a while during the summer.

Any ideas?

I think the V-6 could handle that no problem.
