I let the cruise control do the work at 70mph with a little A/C and some heavy rain, and inexplicably got 35% above EPA Highway. Are a grille block, weight reduction, and hyperinflated tires worth that much?

In the race proper I ended up with a record shattering 64.75MPG. On the way home for our mini competition I was also met with heavy rain for a while, and also extreme sleepiness. I remember dropping .1mpg away from 60 just as I arrived home leaving me with 59.9mpg, but I remember the scangauge being 5mpg friendly during the competition (I thought I was going to get almost 70 when I pulled into the final gas station) so I probably actually got 54-55 on the trip home.
Never until about half a year ago would I think to expect more than 50MPG out of my car, and this group has pushed me to never accept anything - keep pushing, keep going, and always have a project. I'm really happy to have found EM, and it was great to meet up (again) with some of the more local ecomodders. Everyone did a damned impressive job.
Oh yeah, here's some pics. I'm not much of a photojournalist. I used to take photos of live music and I just wanted to have fun and not worry about taking pictures of everything, so when I stopped I kind of lost interest in taking photos of events I'm also involved in. Nonetheless, here they are:

Reason: here's some pics
I also learned I'll never need wipers in the rain anymore. I forgot to put them back on after the run and ran into a couple rainstorms near the border. Rainx did the job.
I too prefer the scenic more tortuous back roads. They are often more fun to drive, but are also less traveled which makes them perfect for hypermiling.
I didn't intend on hypermiling on the way home but ran into some nice traffic jams that started raising my trip mpg and encouraged me to do it over the last 75 or so miles...I ended up around 59 mpg for the trip home.
I'm not sure if I drove through Hurricane Bill on the way home but it was brutal conditions for about 50 miles. I moved about 1 mile in 20 minutes on the Mass Pike at one point. And over my last 20 miles of the trip I averaged around 40 mph in a heavy rain storm on the highway.
Here's a bunch of pics I took from the AMEC event...I took alot more than this but didn't want to flood the thread with pics. I have at least one pic of every car if you are the owner and want me to send it to you...shoot me a note.
Hey guys! New member just signed up after seeing the impressive results at the AMEC Competition yesterday. I was driving the Blue Honda Fit, and had a blast! I think I'll stick around here more often to pick up some tips/tricks on how to make my car a bit more fuel efficient.

Cool! You put up some nice numbers yesterday (with the roof racks)!
Yeah I didn't get to stick around for the picnic to see the official results but It should have been somewhere around 47mpg or so. Yeah I almost showed up with the bike racks still on the bars, but I thought to take them off the morning of the event before leaving.
