I can't do that! I have bikes on the roof almost on a daily basis, and its the same for skis in the winter. Taking the bars on and off would get to become a hastle. Yes it kills my milage a bit, but its a sacrifice I must make.

I upped last Octobers number of 42mpg on the same course by lowering the car a bit, inflating the tires to 45psi and driving a bit differently.

Welcome to ecomodder

Also, feel free to post more pictures Matt, it'll be good to have them all here I think.

By the way...the pic with the white truck has a 3 wheel trike in the bed. I followed it on the NY Thruway (and wasted fuel trying to catch up with it at 80 mph). Darin told me what kind of vehicle it was but I forgot. I thought it looked cool so I snapped a pic.

I thought the reason for getting a Fit was to put stuff inside!

Just kidding. A rear mounted rack would make a significant difference, if you have to carry stuff outside the car. Just a thought.

PS - welcome to the forum.

I've looked into the trunk mount, but then it makes getting in and out of the back of the car with bikes on a bit difficult. But I don't wanna stray this thread OT.

I can see that last picture becoming a sort of ecomodder meme. Something to add to threads like: "After careful examination, the professionals disagree." Nice photos Ben.
