A buddy once went to a triathlon where they added a carbon offset tax to the registration fee. The registration website had a little calculator that takes how many miles away you live and multiplies it by your reported MPG. If CarbonFund.org can be believed, that's about $0.10 per gallon of gas, which would have added $1.70 to my registration fee in the Subaru.

^ Those don't look like LRR tires on that Jeep. I understand if AMEC isn't the kind of club that buys carbon offsets after each race, but anyone who hosts such an event should consider a carbon offset scheme.

Maybe your carbon offset scheme is to have people wrench smart, driver smarter, and save enough fuel in the long run to offset the gas burned getting to the event. ;-)

Anyway, if the Insight has plates, it'll be at AMEC ER IV. The Subaru will not make a return appearance.

Furthermore, I'd love to see a Jeep Wrangler compete. Belly pan, fold down the windshield for smaller frontal area... It would be fun to see.

I unearthed a couple more pics from this event.

Chang at the picnic with daughter at his side and award in hand.

Ben is seen here saying how he is going to swap in an Insight drivetrain and smoke Darin next time out.
