Lightbulb Modifying an automatic transmission for better FE.

I know a lot of drag strip guys do this to their powerglides. Is it possible to add taller gearing in the Fit auto (for the purpose of better FE on hwy stretches) if a person had the funds to do so? What would you guys imagine the price for something like that may be? I saw some guys on a VW forum saying it cost them about $900 to get some custom taller gears made for their autos.

Also, assuming it could be done, if most of the time spent driving the vehicle was in overdrive, it would lead me to believe that there could be substantial fuel economy improvement. Anyone else want to share?

I'm not sure what the gear ratios are for the Fit, but Honda is notorious for high highway rpms. Lowering the rpms would definitely help out. However, unless you can steal parts from a salvage yard transmission, its gonna cost a ton to do.
