MPGuino / What's your Honda Civic settings?

Hi ya'll -

Might you have a MPGuino on your Honda?

If so, what MPGuino values/settings did you input for your car?

I'm simply looking for ballpark values/settings for my model/year Civic, because I'm just using the MPGuino as a relative indicator of my real time driving technique.

Hmmm. I dunno what a DPFI and TBI are, BUT I did hook up two wires (one lead coming from the car computer box).

A few numbers are changing on the MPGuino as I drive, so I must be in the "ballpark".

I just need to calibrate the MPGuino. I don't care about accuracy. I'm only interested in relativity, so I know what I'm doing with the gas pedal is good or not.

TBI = Throttle Body Injection
DPFI = Dual Point Fuel Injection (used on the 88-91 Civic/CRX)

Honda's DPFI uses two injectors that operate completely independently from each other. With the MPGuino connected to only one of the injectors, you will not be monitoring all the fuel used by the engine. I don't know how useful the data from the MPGuino is in this situation, which has kept me from getting one.

Ah. I see. Thanks for the education, Gasoline Fumes!

My Civic is the base model. I believe this cheap model ONLY uses one injector. I'll look under the hood and check the manual in the morning. But I'm pretty sure this model ONLY uses one injector.

Is your Civic above the base model?

With a quick web search, it appears you're spot on.

"This Dual Point engine came in two horse-power configurations, with the base four-speed hatchback getting less punch than the five-speed and A/T models."

This taken from: 1988-1991 Honda Civic Dual Point Fuel Injection Part One

What you're saying probably explains why SOME of the MPGuino readings are NOT showing up. Bummer.

I'll letcha know, if I find a solution, so you can get a MPGuino, too.

I'm actually using an ECU from a Civic like yours in my Wagon. I'm not sure if it's helping MPG, but it's not hurting it.

Your modest, too, I see.

I just took a peek at your Civic wagon MPG stats and was floored! I thought I was playing the "game" quite well at around 44mpg combined and 55mpg highway, but to get 70mpg+ is mind blowing.

So, Gas Fumes, are you doing that by the seat of your pants driving technique or are you using any instrumentation?

Could you post pics of how you designed/installed your front grill block, please?

No instrumentation other than the odometer and gas gauge! I get 70+ MPG by coasting and going slow. I cruise at about 45 MPH with the engine spinning at about 1300 RPM.

The grill block is made from the bedliner of a pickup truck. Anything will work, but I like the look and it's virtually indestructible. I just cut two pieces to fit and used stainless steel screws to hold it in place. The center of the grill is open and I use the license plate to cover that. I have multiple screw holes for the plate and I move it based on ambient temps.

That's quite creative, Gas Fumes. But don'tcha think the pickup truck owner will notice that hold in his bedliner?

What about what's below that? Where'd you get that perfect fitting piece that holds the tire air redirect flaps?
