Getting addicted

Whoa, I'm really getting addicted to hypermiling.

After aeromoding the front end of my Vue, I did my first "kinda long" highway trip, 50 miles going, I set my Cruise control at 55mph and got like 29mpg.

Coming back home I decided to give P&G a try and I was really surprised with the results. Is was much easier to do than I first expected. I pulsed up to 65mph glided down to 55mph and I managed to pull 35mpg.

Really happy with the numbers and now because of me, my girlfriend is getting the hang of this and we now have our little competion between us. We had a talk when I got home.

Me: I dont want to brag but, bet you cant guess my gas milage!
Her: F you! You just did a 50 miles trip, I wont even try!
Me: 35mpg! Oh yeah! And you'll never beat that!
Her: Its a no contest, I do all my driving in the city...

I really love this when we argue on hypermiling performance, its so funny.

Well there is my success story. Im really happy with the numbers. Cant wait to try to get even better numbers.

Need more ecomods, always more ecomods!

Just FYI, my Renault does 100% city miles (rarely over 40mph average 21mph) and I get better mileage in the city than I possibly could on the highway (unless of course I travel well below the speed limit).

Good going. I have a couple points for you.

I noted on your Saturn's page that you have slightly oversize tires. Make sure you give yourself credit for the full miles you roll on those big boys. Use a GPS to get the actual distance on a longish trip. Then do the math to get a correction factor vs. your odometer. My Accord has slightly oversize tires; I need to multiply the odometer times 1.02996 to get the true miles. Of course the UltraGauge only knows whatever the computer tells it so that doesn't account for oversize tires.

Second point: I agree, city driving CAN yield surprisingly high mpg if you use EOC - kill the engine and coast. Of course your results will be limited somewhat by your local conditions but it's not a lost cause. At low speeds, there's very little aerodynamic drag, which is a good thing. Success here is a matter of timing your coasts to synch with traffic.

Good luck with it!

Just did the calculation and my tires have 2% bigger circumference. Ill put that into my UG.

As for pulse and glide in the city there is not much place in my home town. Traffic is pretty dense and stop lights are purposly no synced to slow down traffic. You have to be on the road at exactly the right moment to succeed in timing two lights even then, you'll hit a red light for sure.

There is a big Hill here and to make matters worse, they put a stop light at the bottom of it. It kills me everytime I hit red going up or coasting down.

Well, for now Im in the 30mpg zone, still waiting on my lowering springs. Ordered LEDs light bulbs and Hid headlights. Less power pulled from the alternator but its purely for looks!!

Well I just went on a trip 45km going... Fueled my truck: 412.5km=257.8miles with 32L=8.34gal which gives me my best tank ever of 7.76L/100km=33.6mpg.

On my way back I abused P&G EO and got a whooping 5.47L/100km=43mpg.

So happy right now to see that my kill switch is really paying off!!

Had to share!! Tomorrow I should receive my lowering springs, really can't wait to see the improvement.
