My new project.

My Dream..... I have a tandem bicycle that doesn't get ridden. I'm thinking of turning it into a recumbent with 500-1000W electric hub motor. I can change the rear wheel and gearing so I can maintain about 20 mph on human power if I don't mind sweating. the motor should get me up to 25-30w/o sweat. I also have a clear fairing/windshield that will help with aero (a little). I'm thinking front wheel motor so I have no problem gearing the rear for my purposes.

OK, now is where you guys give me recommendations, remind me of things I've not thought of, or tell me I'm just nuts.

Just check your laws. you dont want to have to regester its as a motorcycle and insure it. In oregon its 1000w and/or 20mph max. I was working on one and we geared it to top out at just over 20mph. we got better low end torque this way.

I like these guys. ElectricScooterParts.com - Visit the Electric Scooter Parts store.
