Maine's February marked by warmth, lack of snow
By The Associated Press

GRAY, Maine — The National Weather Service in Maine says last month has gone into the books as one of the warmest, least-snowy Februarys on record.

Bangor had only 2.7 inches of snow for the month — a record for the least snowy February.

Caribou had 9.8 inches, which was the ninth-lowest total on record. And in Portland, the 3.2 inches of snow was the seventh-lowest snowfall total since records began in 1871.

The average temperature for the month in Bangor was the third-highest on record, at 7.5 degrees above normal. Caribou was nearly 11 degrees above normal — the second-warmest February on record.

Portland had the fourth-warmest February on record, coming in at 6 degrees above normal.
my neighbors roof has been green moss all february and part of january. I am in bangor maine.

it is a blessing really, I did some welding, and needed a calm winter...I got one.

In contrast, all around has snow records to speak of, florida went into a chill this year with new orleans...

It takes warm to move the cold. It is that simple.. I pondered what the asian eclipse of last summer was going to do this winter, as that too was a 100 year event. 6 minutes, changed six months...?

I don't think the eclipse has much effect. Maine is probably enjoying the south edge of the arctic warming. Here at the north edge of agriculture on the great plains, we have had a very mild winter with little snow, and bare patches are appearing over a month early. A friend has been monitoring temperatures on Baffin Island, and they have been much like ours. The arctic ocean is burping methane, and the eskimos say there is so much fresh meltwater around that when they shoot a seal, it sinks.
