only if you ignore the cost of the natural gas which is HIGHER THAN GASOLINE.

Actually, one gallon of gasoline is equivalent to 126cuft of natural gas. Right now, compressed natural gas is running around $0.93 per ccf... or $1.17 per gasoline gallon equivalent.

Define equivalent. Are you telling me i can do more miles on $1 of Natural Gas in my car than I can on $1 of gasoline.

that is the only equivalent that matters. if the equivalent of a gallon is $1.17 HOW MANY MILES PER GALLON will you get on that $1.17

Do some research buddy. Nat gas is substantially cheaper per mile than gasoline or diesel.

Yeah well looking at your site the figures are not too appealing. about 17.7 miles per dollar.

with my minivan pre ethanol I was paying 14 miles per dollar and thats with a much larger vehicle and 50% heavier vehicle. (using $2 per gallon which is my average over the last 12 months with gas from $1.30 to $2.55 a gallon)

It does not hold a candle to my metro.

the article only tells me how much MONEY they put into the tank $6.49 and how many miles they drove 115.7 but not how much PER UNIT the gas costs. is it the same today less more? I know the gas at our home (heating) is far more expensive NOW than it was a few years ago.

on top of that a price premium that is even more expensive than the hybrid price premium meaning the same thing. will never save me a penny in gas.

so YOU do some research.

??? Depending on where you live natural gas is from $.73 EQUIVALENT to $2.25 EQUIVALENT per "gallon" as gas. That equivalent means the same energy content as gasoline. Natural gas in terms of being a fuel is much cheaper per mile than gasoline which is all the counts. You can bank on that but because natural gas is new as an automotive fuel you will find massive price variations from county to county and state to state.

Trouble is our wonderfull government rapes you on the cost of equipment for onroad vehicles, although I am told a Mexican conversion (which uses the same brand/type of parts ours do) are usually about $800 including installation. I think the $800 is where we should be moving toward, if you live in a city with natural gas heating in each house you just need an expensive pump to deliver it.

The legal payback period was around 6 years but again depends on where you live.

...try looking up EGG "equivalent Gasoline Gallon" or how much ENERGY a given volume of natural gas has to an equivalent gallon of gasoline...there are charts going both ways.

It depends on NG prices mostly. At below $1.50/GGE, something like a CNG Civic is cheaper than a Prius, and above it the Prius is cheaper.

NG prices vary by WHERE you live! You can't tell me Utah and Nevada have the same NG prices as Cali or Wisconsin for that matter. (heck they are sometimes 1/4 the price per therm there as here)

There are places that have an abundance and the NG price is MUCH cheaper if you live there. So if you live out west you are dumb not to have an NG pump and car.

But in other areas it varies but for the most part NG is less than gasoline, even during our faked fuel crisis.

Cheers
Ryan
