need rim advice for my CRX
OK so i need to lower my RPM at speed on my CRX HF..
so i found 2 tire sizes that will work wellon mycar to increase tire size yet keep rolling resistance low..
option 1 - 155/80r 15" however i need some 4.5-5.5" 15" rims for these to fit..
Option 2 - 185/70-14 Low ROlling Resistance tires.. need 14" rims for this
Now any one aware of any 15" 5.5" rims in a honda 4 bolt.. what car would i find these on for junk yard scrounging
Same goes for the 14" what cars had honda 4 bolt in a 14" rim..
I'm ok with steelies as they will be cheap .. ideally cheap is good ..
I know insight rims would bolt up for the 14" but i dont want to invest huge cash, and id really prefer the 15" if doable.

If you get 14 inch rims you can use the insight LRRs...
Anyway, there are a tons of 4x100 wheels out there, it was an incredibly popular bolt pattern.

yeah but ideally i want to go to the junk yard and say " I need 4 15" or 14" steel wheels from a *insert car make, model and year*."
Our junk yards aren't user freindly.. they wont even let you scrounge the yard like they used to.. I used to buy more stuff as I would find cars with cool add-ons mine didn't have.. or stuff from other makes that would work for my car. You have to know exactly what your looking for then ask and they go find it.. talk about a waste of labor.
So I need to know what cars came standard with 4x100m in 14" and in 15" steel rims
I'm leaning the way of the 14" LRR tires.. however the 15" would get me lower revs... and are skinnier , I don't know there rolling resistance but it been quite well proven the skinnier they are there going to have less rolling resistance. The height diffrence is about 2-3% difference between the 14" and 15" tire..
Maybe do 4 donuts for ultimate skinny tires but that's scary ..lol

If you have an HF tranny revs should be that much of an issue. Mine is at ~2000 at 62 mph with stock tires.

I found that SATURN steelies 15" fit HONDA 4x100. So do mazda MIATA rims -forgot what yrs. not sure of the width on any of them tho. I'm sellin 2 of my VX rims (no tires) for $160 , made by enkei (((woot))). or unless u want 15" alloys anything from the INTEGRA would fit on your CRX.

my 1985 crx hf is around 2,000rpm at 65mph, I just put a different tranny in it before selling it to my brother because it had the wrong one in it when I got it, also if you get one from a state with moutons it will have different gearing as well.
the stock rims on an hf should be 13" 4.5" wide steel rims, that are 12.5 pounds same as the civic cx has, stock civic steel rims are 5" wide and weigh 15 pounds or so, I would say going with a 155/80 R13 tire is the way to go unless you can find some 145 R13 tires (no /number indicates that they are a 85 aspect ratio), bu that is going to give you good traction, light weight and a tall tire, stock tires on the crx hf are often 165/70 R13, same as the civic vx.

Watch out for the different size center holes as well as the wheel offset. I know the wheel is "theoretically" supposed to center itself due to the tapered seats on the lug nuts, but still... The offset will make the wheels stick out to the sides more or less, and change the loads on the wheel bearings.

The Honda Civic HX wheels get my vote at 14x5.5 @ 11.8lbs a piece..
these usually come in silver..

If it's a stock HF, going with a taller gear will net nothing or drop engine below it's sweet spot in efficiency.
I'm going with a .702 ratio 5th out of an OBD2 car for my 88 Civic DX's new gearbox... it's not quite HF 5th gear territory, but I've been netting almost 40 mpg on a highway cruise from the stock 92-95 DX drivetrain in it. With the new engine I'm hoping to push 50 mpg with no aero work.
FYI, Chris, VX rims look exactly like HX, come in 13X4.5, weight less than HX, and do not command the absurd resale value of HX rims.
Also, i hear the fugly Civic Hybrid rims weigh very little, IIRC they are a 15X5.5-6 rim.
