We'll see the Polo Bluemotion long before this thing ever makes it here, if it ever. I'd buy one though.

For passenger safety - Ejector seats. In case of pending crash - pull the lever and be "Free" of the car.

Ok so this second version ONLY gets 170 mpg, I'm sure that after the ecomodders in this group get a chance to work it over it'll be a true 1 litre car again.

Let's see, how does PHEV sound?

You'll look like a real fool in this thing getting 170mpg when the guy next to you is driving a REAL car with an electric motor. This is stupid dead end idea.

What kind of comment is that? It could be made a pure BEV. I wonder who'll be laughing when passing by that real car sitting on the shoulder plugged in a generator.

Where would you put the battery pack? Plus the management seems to think battery electrics are for 'intellectual elite' and there is no real market for them.

This car was conceived up by the same guy who thought a 12 cylinder $80k VW was a good idea. Remember the Phaeton? Thank Ferdinand Piech.

Does this look like a tesla to you?

The whole point of narrow 1+1 configuration is to reduce frontal area by placing the passenger behind the driver. This configuration is a great way to cheat drag but it also eliminates a lot of internal volume. Even the most advanced batteries today take up a lot more volume than a diesel fuel tank. Besides, VW doesn't believe in battery electrics so its a moot point. We'll never see one of these on the road.

WTH?

I don't think anyone getting 170mpg looks foolish.

Consuming fuel at that rate has to be more than competitive with electric.

BTW, if you have a double post, don't tell us about it with yet another post, just delete it.

Today... probably. But even if the diesel engined version hit the streets in 2013 when VW predicts it will (it won't), it'll have to compete with a number of conventional production electric vehicles all of which will be larger, more practical and less expensive to run per mile even at 170mpg. I'm sorry but anyone driving this thing 4 or 5 years from now will look foolish. The first gen Honda Insight with a much more conventional configuration and a lot more interior space than this thing was a sales failure. What makes you think anyone would want to buy this? Sure there is always a tiny market of extremists that go on FE related forums where they swap tips and ideas () but is that enough to justify putting this car into production? Get real.

On the plus side, I like that the roof was inspired by the Me109
