Thumbs up New from Egypt (looking for electric car)

Hello guys
My name is Ahmed Hamdy from Alexandria, Egypt.
I really would like to buy an electric car and use it here is Egypt, we don't have this culture yet sadly But I really want to take the initiative and drive this one.

So can anyone advice me how can I buy an electric car with really low price "no more than $4000". And whither I can buy this electric ForkenSwift.

Thanks

Welcome, Ahmed!

("Exciting" time to be living in Egypt, yes?)

Are there currently any new EV's being sold in Egypt? The only one I can think of that is now old enough to be found at that price might might be the Indian made REVA / G-WIZ. But I don't know if it was sold there.

I take it you don't want to create your own EV?

cheers-
Darin

Welcome ! I don't know how many members we have from your area of the world, but I would guess it is not many. You may need to be the "pioneer" to show others in your area how to build their own electric car (the Egyptian ForkenSwift!). That would be exciting!

Welcome Ahmed! I hope you can find something in your budget.

I would just like to clarify that the ForkenSwift was built by MetroMPG from a gasoline Swift, with an electric motor taken from an old forklift (Fork + Swift = ForkenSwift), and is not a car that can be purchased from a normal car dealer.
If you are considering building your own EV, you might want to look at how the ForkenSwift was built.

Either way, welcome, keep us posted on what you decide to do!

Yeah sure! A very exciting time out there, and here we are continuing our revolution.

I will check the car you mentioned above, and no I don't think it is being bought here in Egypt.

I let the choice to build my own EV car as last, because I will face a lot of problem getting the components

Regards,
Ahmed

Sure I will be glad to be a pioneer here
But I leave the choice of building my own car as a last resort, because I will face a lot of problem getting the components and assembling them.

BTW, the idea of electric car here itself is not found, and I know if I found an EV for sell and drive it here it will be kinda very weird, still I want to take this initiative regardless the problems I will face either from the peoples or from the Gov.

Regards,
Ahmed

Yes I know ForkenSwift is a custom car and I already read about how it was being assembled.
I am just inquiring if I can buy one, because as I said in the last reply I'm not against the idea of building my own EV, but the problem will be in getting the components and assembling them.

Regards,
Ahmed

Hi Ahmed,

I can understand the difficulty in finding the supplies. I wonder if it wouldn't also be quite difficult to bring a completed electric car to Egypt? Even if you find one for sale in France (for example), would it be possible to bring it into Egypt without difficulty?

Most of the (well built) electric cars that I have seen for sale are in the range of US$8000 to $10,000. I think that may make it more attractive to build your own.

For getting the components, could it be possible that many of them are already available within Egypt? I'm not familiar with the number of electric utility vehicles (such as forklifts & carts & such) used by the ports there in Alexandria, but it may be worth checking out.

I do understand that building the EV is a last resort for you and I certainly understand that simply buying a ready-to-drive electric car would be preferable. However, I believe it will also be quite difficult to find one that is ready-to-drive at the "really low price" you mention. I would expect that it would be even more difficult to find than the components for building one.

If you do decide to go ahead with your own build, I know that this ecomodder community will be more than helpful in guiding your progress.
