New guy from OKC, OK

Hey guys, just signed up after a few months of occasional lurking. I recently purchased a 2010 Ford Fusion (2.5L auto) and have been getting increasingly interested in hypermiling techniques since then. So far, the only mods that may effect FE are a K&N air filter and AMSOIL 5w20 XLM in the engine. I plan to change all other fluids soon. The Fusion usually only leaves the garage though if I'm travelling on the interstate or getting groceries..

My daily transportation is an 2008 Yamaha Zuma YW50. I ride it as long as the weather is safe, my cargo needs for the day can be met by underseat storage, and my trip won't require travelling through a 45mph+ speed zone. I run AMSOIL ATP 2 stroke oil (Saber) in the Zuma as well, and will soon be changing the gearcase oil as well. Other than that, I've swapped the stock knobby tires out for a much smoother set of Michelin Boppers. I don't have any weight or rolling resistance figures, but just by looking at the tires side by side I'm sure there is a small gain in efficiency.

My other modes of transportation are a 2002 Buell X1 Lightning and a 2009 Buell XB12XT Ulysses. I did an extensive rebuild on the X1 including larger displacement cylinders and higher CR pistons, so FE is not at the top of my priority list when I ride "Betty". The XT, "Silver", is far too aerodynamically useless to worry about FE without major modification. Both Buells get AMSOIL 20w50 ARO in the engine and Formula Plus in the primary/tranny. I've tried synthetic oil in the tranny before and just don't like the way shifts feel with it. The X1 averages low-mid 50's, and the XT gets low 40's at every fill. Neither of them show much change depending on riding style.

Hopefully I'll learn something from hanging around the place. With gas prices looking the way they are, the benefits of conserving every last drop may become more apparent in the not-so-distant future.

Hey man, I live over by Shepherd mall near 23rd and Penn. Cool to see another Sooner here on the site. Have you heard of any eco-modding or eco-miler groups here in the city? If not maybe we should grab a drink and use that as an excuse.
