You could do that, but the heat transfer would be so inefficient that you probably wouldn't notice any real temperature change. Next best idea would be to put the coils inside the tube, but that would restrict airflow (not that it would matter for our driving style, for the most part.)

As Christ said, that would add unnecessary (and inefficient) complication. Why bother with additional systems when post-radiator air and/or exhaust heat are already present?

my old hyundai pony had a flap on the air cleaner for winter to summer position. in winter position, it had a duct to the exhaust manifold that connected to the heatshield.
