Ask for thinnest tolerable oil when you change oil next. That is one thing that affects FE, and you don't get a chance to change it every week. If synthetic, better, but it cuts deeper in the wallet. Clean up junk in the boot. Take off any silly overhead rails/carrier/spoiler and clean out the boot. Lighter the better.

(Feels nice here to be on the other side, as I have mostly been asking stuff rather than telling ;-)

And I run my tires at 50 PSI, even when my guru Pale here is a bit shy admitting to his figure :P

Side note. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT turn off any Hyundai automatic transmission while rolling! NO EOC! They use some sort of rubberized clutch packs that can't take it. I just got an '04 Elantra and it says absolutely NO "flat-towing" or moving for any distance with the engine off. You can shut off at red lights, any coast up maybe a few car lengths, but no more than that.

I guarantee you that you can get it to 35 MPG! I have a bigger car, and I'm already there - check it out.

Watch your tire pressures, and try not to rev it over 2500 at any point. Once you get used to 2500, try to push that down to 2k.

Congrats, welcome, and good luck!

Listen to Nevyn's warning. I make the assumption that Auto trannies cannot EOC until after I have done lots of research on them. The "no flat tow" definitely means no EOC. Automatics that are designed to be flat towed (for example, cars that can be attached to mobile homes) are usually fine, but research is always in order.

The tranny in my Jeep isn't safe for EOC either, unless I put the t-case in neutral. The problem is, the t-case isn't synchronized, so it would be somewhere between hard and impossible to get it engaged again.

Think gasoline is expensive? Weigh it against the cost of rebuilding an automatic tranny. Been there, done that...
