New S-Class Merc, 2.2 TwinTurbo 42MPG

This is one of the models shown at the Paris Auto Show.

It is the same >2 tonne beast we know but this one has a gentle side...It has an amazing MPG of 5.7 l/100 km (~42 MPG US / 50 MPG imp.)

The engine is a 4 cyl. twin-turbo Diesel engine, and it gives the following performance figures:

- 204 HP

- 500 Nm (369 lb.ft.) starting at 1600 rpm

- 0-100 km/h in 8.2s

- 240 km/h (150 Mph) max. speed

- 149 gr. CO2/km

Its an interesting idea but i doubt they'll sell any outside of western Europe where fuel prices are obscene.

Well, if they would put at least the V6 Diesel on it , the one on the E-Class Link

nice to comeback to a topic to confirm...now they do and somehow the "whale" manages a better MPG than the E-Klasse, probably through better gearing and maybe better aerodinamics.
