Ioniq hybrid has no lead acid battery at all

So it looks like the Ioniq hybrid has no lead acid battery at all, a first for mass market cars.

Instead, they have a built-in 12v lithium pack attached to the main hybrid battery/traction battery. That means no float charging an inefficient but tough battery chemistry all the time.

I can not find the source, but I read an article once that stated that less than 20% of the energy that goes into a typical car battery ever comes back out due to the Peukert effect and the constant maintenance of a full SOC. Does anyone have a citation about that?

Points out that charge efficiency over 90% SOC is under 50%. Seeing as this is where car starting batteries operate, yeah...it's pretty abysmal!

Ok, might be time to do something about that in my car...

If all you ever do is float charge and barely ever use the battery then 20% sounds low.
A typical car battery takes about an amp to maintain float voltage. A larger truck batter could be 2 to 2.5 amps.
