newb saying hello

been lurking a while, finally registered. Name is Norm, I drive a 2001 range rover hse that's up for sale, this weekend's 600 mile round trip broke me, gonna sell her and get an older mercedes 300(ish) benz turbo diesel. I get better then the advertised 15 mpg, I got actual 17 while driving 2 hours late to a job interview. not enough.

the factory computer keeps telling me I'm good for 430 miles after a fillup but rarely do I get more then 260 howering near empty. The factory mpg average is close to what i measured though.
