Newbie EcoModder has record mpg
Since plugging around on the forum, this site is great.
1994 Toyota Corolla 1.8L auto, 4 door
Last week I averaged 24.4 mpg about 60% city and 40% highway
This tank I averaged 33.67 mpg 5% city and 95% highway. The thing is, the speed limit was 70 so most of the time I was going 75 and cars were still flying by me. I got 333 miles and filled up with 9.891 gallons.
THE BIG QUESTION....
My car is completely stock. I've read the 65+ efficiency mods and 100+ hypermiling tips but have no idea where to start.
Besides the guy driving behind the wheel. What is the best bang for the buck areomods recommended? Or any mods for that matter?

Congrats on the success.
#1 mod is tire pressure. Its free, so pump it up to what you're comfortable with. Most guys go with max sidewall.
#2 mod is almost always a grill block. Faster warm up plus better aero is a win win.

Doax, I will be sure to make those two mods happen. Thanks much for the advice. By the way, I am 33 now, but spent the first 27 years of my life in Green Bay. It was great to get a reply from somebody back home.
As a newbie, how do I post my car and mileage average on the left hand column like many other people have?

You'll need to go to the Garage tab at the top of the page, then click "Add new vehicle." You can put all the information you know or can find in there, including pictures, and then go to town with the fuel log. Welcome to the site!

Do you have any kind of instrumentation? (Scanguage, Ultragauge, etc.)

Instrumentation gives you instant feedback, so you know instantly whether what you're doing is good or bad for economy. I don't think a 94 Corolla is OBD2, so you would need an MPGuino. There's a subsection under the Instrumentation section of the forum for that. |

Ease of installation. An MPGuino installation is somewhat involved, requiring that you tap into a fuel injector ground and your VSS, and then tune it.
With a vacuum gauge, higher vacuum at a given RPM means less fuel is being burned, but it obviously doesn't give you a rolling average of fuel used, relate it to distance traveled, or allow you to compare fuel consumption at different RPM. On the other hand, vacuum is a really good indicator of load, which is not shown by an MPGuino. Different instruments, but I feel that overall an MPGuino would be more useful to you.
