Newbie from India

Hi Folks,

I am from India. Got exposed to hypermiling through a feature on CNN about it. So joined this forum around December last. Personal background - electrical engineer (electronics really) with 12 years experience, hardware/embedded s/w mix, skewed towards embedded s/w domain.

I own a Honda city (known as Honda Fit Aria elsewhere, a sedan version of Honda Jazz). It has an IDSI 1.5 L / 5 MT configuration. Used to give me ~35 before any hypermiling techniques were applied. In comparison, my last tank came in @45+ MPG.

One small thing is my EPA figures are made up, but are based on sound data available publicly. I even used the right formula to arrive at the EPA combined figure, with those two (city/highway) figures, as indicated on my fuel log figure.

Have started logging fuel use since started focusing on saving fuel. Good/bad thing (depending on how you see it) is I log only about 500 miles/mo, which means any feedback about improvement comes very slow.

Would like specific suggestions about techniques because I believe that brings out the maximum benefit with least efforts as far as hypermiling is concerned. Thats what took me from 35 to 45, and will take me further than that too. As a new year resolution, I want 500 miles out of my 9.25 gal tank, roughly 55 mpg. So help me God!

45+ MPG is excellent! You've increased about 1/3 over your previous 35 mpg.

A ScanGauge would provide near-instantaneous mpg display is a good idea if your car is OBDII. I don't know if OBDII is available only on USA cars or also other markets.

Or, with your background, I'd guess you could build an MPGuino. You'll find threads on that here in the Instrumentation sub-forum. OpenGauge / MPGuino FE computer - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com

If you haven't done any mods yet, you could take a look in sub forum EcoModding Central, the sticky [Master list of 60+ proven mods for increasing MPG].
