newbie saying hi

Hey everyone. I am typically the drag racing and ford racing fan and forum person but high gas prices have made me want to capitilize on my love of cars to actually save some money. Since everything I own gets horrible mileage, I figured this was the place to start.

Vehicles and average MPG are below.

2002 Ford F150 with 5.4
2003 ford mach1 (race car)
1996 Ford Thunderbird with 4.6 (daily driver and weekend race car)

I look forward to learning stuff. I enjoy working on cars and making them faster is fun but I think the challenge of getting better MPG would be fun for me as well.

My truck is the big project currently. I installed an electric fan with on/off switch so it rarely runs which has to be better than the 8 pound weight on the front of the engine. Other than that and jacking up the tire pressure. I haven't done anything else.

Welcome to the site. A bunch of us here on EM have racing or at least modding for more power in our background. I do agree modding for MPGs is just as fun.

I have been looking at my scangauge screen more like a score board than I usually do the HP Speed radar station boards they put up along the highway lately. (that is what those "You are going this fast" boxes are for ain't it? )

The Austin Seven was a particularly rewarding car to modify, it is said, because almost anything you tried was an improvement. However, given that your current stable is specialized for their jobs, why not get another car with great potential for economy? You can probably even make money doing Metro amalgamations. And remember, you can keep that lead foot on the floor a lot longer, and have more fun outfoxing the traffic, if you can't burn much fuel.

^What he said. I think it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.

I agree with you on that one. I'm looking at taking the thunderbird off the road completly and then buying something more economical. I have to figure out a method of storing my wifes mach1 though first. Outside is not an option.

Store the "new" car outside?
