Welcome to the site.

Tell us a bit more about your current commute, why you're here, what you hope to accomplish, what you're interested in doing, etc.

Current DD is my beloved 93 Volvo 850 5 spd. that may become a project car.

I found this site just surfing the net for diy hybrid info.

....My daily commute is about 60 miles. During the commute, there are several times I have the chance to coast for about a mile. Thing is, if I had an electric motor (or ???) that could help to sustain the speed on slight downward grade, I could coast much farther.
.... Then there are questions of, starting and stopping the engine vs leaving the engine idling while coasting ect.
.... That of course leads me to questions of using an electric motor to drive the engine accessories vs the engine doing it.

A short acceleration (i.e. a pulse) will do the same.

On my diesel Volvo, my overall fuel consumption reduced significantly when I started coasting - even though I keep the engine running.
I find it amazing how often I can coast even in this flat terrain.
