The Newest VW - called the "up"

Just read about the newest small petrol sipper from VW.

Finally: Volkswagen Gives up! (Lots Of Pictures) | The Truth About Cars

Shame it is not available in the USA. Looks like the LUPO with a better engine.

MorphDaCivic -

I like how the rear window has a little angle to it. Nice touch :

And there's a CNG version coming.

It's also slightly pre-modded : hardly any grille left to block, little air-dam, nearly flat rims with minimal holes in them

Of all of the recent micro offerings, the Up (hope they change that marketing name) looks very purposeful and elegant. It does not go with the faddish & cliched swoops and swashes of sculpted sheetmetal/plastic surfaces. It's restrained & taut visual language is very refreshing.
Similar in the essence of the original Rabbit/Golf Mk1.

VW fortunately has not let itself be drawn into the awful Ford / Mazda / Volvo / Peugeot / ... look that's been overdone in a hurry and has become far from original.

The up! will also get Blue Motion Technology (BMT, VW's energy saving vehicle line) versions that use even less gas - hey, why not make BMT standard VW ???

The CNG version will pump out only 79g CO2/km - the best official value for any ICE car yet.
(Plug-ins can beat it, but IRL that'd depend largely on how far they're driven.)

Can't afford the VW Up!? Get the Škoda Citigo:
Quote:
The Skoda Citigo is based on the Volkswagen Up and apart from restyled cosmetic changes the Citigo is essentially a VW Up, it has the same engine options as the Up and the dimensions of the car are the same. The main differences between the Up and the Citigo are differently shaped headlamps, restyled tail lamps, reshaped bumpers and different alloy wheels.
