News: electric airplane debuts at Oshkosh (1.5 to 2 hrs / charge)

Via GCC:

Quote:
The aircraft cruises at 70 mph, stalls at 45 mph, and has a top speed of 90 mph and a flight duration of 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The pack [lithium ion, 5.6 kWh, 1000 projected cycles] weighs 78 pounds, and can be recharged in two hours using a 220V charger or six hours with a 110V charger.
Apparently the company doesn't sell completed planes, but powerplant kits that you install in a kit plane.

They also sell trike glider kits. Looks like an AXE controller, and ETEK type motor:

I'm pretty tempted, though the 500-600 fpm climb rate is probably at sea level, and would be more like 300 fpm in these parts.

yeah, that plane is pretty much my motorcycle with wings and a fancy battery pack!

I am close enough to Oshkosh to have seen lots of weird planes fly over my house this past weekend.
