I guess sedans are easy enough to swallow, and streamlined bodies are repulsive enough, that sedans remain the norm in America.

If the public would swallow it, they would build a streamlined four door. Two examples are the Prius, and this SUV/tallwagon (also available in Acura):
It's a shame that designs like this, plus rear wheel skirts, low grilles, and long tails, aren't the norm.

I don't know. I think the BMW 5-series GT is the exemplar of this sort of vehicle, and it's heavy and sucks fuel. I'd much rather have a wagon or a regular sedan.

...the Cube, et.al., all remind me of being "wheeled bricks."

Every time I see one on the road, all I can think of is that it looks like "a melting ice cube on wheels".
IMHO, all Nissans are ugly. But this one really pushes ugliness to a new level.

I agree, they have been watered down. Original CX
XM - still a slight skirt at the back
New C6 no skirt at all.
Still beautiful though...

Don't forget the CX's ancestor, the SM:

I like that SM if the front window started about 3in earlier and had a nice 6v turbo I would be all over that.
