When the A/C died in my Metro and the shop wanted several hundred dollars to replace the compressor, I considered something like that for months. (Well, except I was thinking about replacing the rear seatback with some plywood and mounting the A/C through that, then venting the heat out of the trunk.) My 10,000 BTU window unit only draws 450 watts (about 32 amps at 14V), so I figured I could wire it into the battery and not overpower the alternator.

Did that with a 5,000BTU unit in a Ford E350 Camper conversion. Worked nice.

A spray bottle of water is lots cheaper - and probably works better, too :-)
