Anyone know when the Audi A3 TDI is supposed to arrive in the USA?

I've been happy with mine, 160k on a 2001 Jetta Tdi.

The biggest problem is the dealers don't know how to work on them and owners who treat them like gas motors. The take special maintance.

I have two friends with Tdi and they are happy. One friend has almost 300K on a 2001 Jetta.

Should, but probably won't. At least what I've read only talks about the highest output gas engine in the Polo for the power hungry North Americans.

(Same situation for the Mazda 2 that the Canadian market is supposed to get: no small engine option, only the biggest one.)

Have you read anything different?

I've read that the Polo should make it to NA with the TDI option. Since the biggest diesel they put in the Polo is the 1.6 I don't see what other engine they could offer here.

Which is why I was holding out hope they could shoe-horn the 2.0L TDI into the Polo.

the 1.6 is a great lil diesel - I'm completely stunned by all these stories of unreliability - over in europe they have a history of being damn-near bullet proof!

I don't think it's the engines that have a bad rep in the USA - it's everything else. Accessories, electrical system, transmission. And from what I've heard, the US network of dealers leaves a bit to be desired - I heard the refrain "when you buy a new VW, you're buying a new car without a warranty," more than once at TDIClub.com.
