non electric starter.

I reacently read an artical about I think it was the new Nissan Altima hybrid, that when it kills the engine it stops all the cylenders at the mid way point, to start the engine it squirts fuel in to one of them, rotates the engine backwords a quarter turn compressing anther cylender and firing the engine over in the forword direction where to runs as normal.
I'm not sure if this uses less energy, but I would think that it might give way to the electric starter being a thing of the past.

turns out it's already been posted about!

feel free to delete this page Metro, or SVOboy.

Not nissan, Mazda SISS - Smart Idle Start System

What's cool is that you don't need extra hardware to do it (for direct injection engines) - it's just some fancy programming

Did you try the new handy dandy search feature at the top left, underneath the header image?

Anyway, here's a thread about it.
