NOOB here

Hey guys,
So I'm new to the forums and to attempting hypermiling as I have always seen things as hp>mpg.
Myself, I have a well modified 2000 mercury cougar, that once I am finished tuning should be getting somewhere between 35-40mpg on 91 OCT. (making about 210whp)
My girlfriend however has just picked up a 2004 Toyota Echo RS. Its a nice slick car, and I have been reading the Toyota forums and it looks like she should average 45mpg. That I would like to work on.
Right now I am Technical Purchaser for a custom manufacturing plant in Ontario, I also have my Mech. Engineering backround. So i'm thinking about maybe doing some aerodynamics work with the Echo, and just modify the motor for economy.
My backround passion with fuel economy goes back to college when I designed a Biodiesel production unit that ran off of solar power, and was small enough to fit in a corner cabinet + produce apprx 1L of Biodiesel/hour from 1.1L of waste vegetable oil. We fabricated a unit that worked manually and off of an electric drill for the material transfer, but our final design was as stated above. (we were on discovery channel for it)

Anyways I look forward to accumulating the wealth of information that I am sure is all of the boards here.

aero mods for toyota Yaris/echo

Cover the under side in some way, what I used was aluminum others have used other material, such as coroplast. covering up the rear wheel wells will help as well.

Im a noob here as well.., but holy ****..

Were you the one on TV about the college students who made that bus run on vegetable oil or something like that?

And you stopped in at fast food restaurants and asked them for their old grease and oil they fry things with that they usually just throw out etc..?

is that you?

No i was on daily planet for the college students of George Brown College. We made a Bio Diesel production unit. The guy spent alot of time making fun of the projects because some were pretty out there. One of them was an automated garbage bag tyer. Another was a car seat that rotated and lifted out to help the elderly.
