There's a few discussions on it, like here:

Maybe bring it up in that thread.

I ordered an MPGuino the day before yesterday and I haven't heard anything back. Can somebody tell me exactly how this is supposed to work.

You should have received an email from the post office when it shipped. Don't know why you didn't but a little more patience would be appreciated, someone has to assemble your guino and it isn't like anyone is going to retire on the donation.

Are these currently available? All the kits I could find online are backordered and I don't really want to wait months for parts to come in.

Also, will the assembled kits withstand a 14V signal on the injector line? I know the *dinos usually don't want to see more than 5.4V so the VSS is under that but the injectors run 0-14V on my car.

Plenty in stock, designed to work with 14+ volt vss and injector signals. There is a large resistor in series with the vss and inj signals and the pin voltage is limited in both directions by a 5v zener.

Does the pre-assembled version still have the USB port? I'd like to try screwing around with the software to add a "Big Instant Speed" display pane, not to mention updating it if you all release new software.

Nope, no usb port. The bootloader was a liability where reliability was concerned (code sitting around waiting to overwrite itself) and the additional hardware detracts from the complexity/cost/durability equations for the vast majority of users.

The chip is not locked from further programming though, plenty of folks have figured out how to program an atmega, but it is out-of-scope for the opengauge proprietors to teach it.

The Project - '93 Wrangler S

So I just found out about this yesterday.

If I'm getting this right, the MPGuino will tell me just how many Miles per Gallon I'm getting overall and in real time while I drive and for each tank that's filled?

And to buy a pre-built is $55 and gets in within a few days, has no USB port to update, but there's resources somewhere of how to upgrade if needed? Chip fits into a flopppy IDE cables and that's how it's done, I think I saw.

And is it recommended to put a fuse in the 12v line in? What kind of amperage does it pull anyway if such a thing is put in.

I'm wanting to throw this into my 93 Jeep Wrangler. I can find where to plug in where I need too, I've poked under the hood enough. I just need to know exactly what it does. I need to improve my mileage on my about 14 MPG Jeep.

I have the same concerns as Fhajad: anyone knows how to change the MPGuino from English units to Metric units?

It would be a good improvement.
