That matches my experience with a headlamp development program I was involved with once; that is, higher power bulbs didn't appear to throw much more light or throw it farther.
Cheapest place for replacement bulbs besides a scrap yard is Menard's.
on the halogen side, I would agree, it's all marketing,
on the hid side, crap is crap and you get what you pay for.
I run HID on the Q45 and am semi-active on hid planet.
NOTE TO OTHERS: NEVER RUN PLUG N PLAY HID BULBS IN HALOGEN LAMPS!!!!!! I DONT CARE IF THEY 'FIT'! IT MAKES LIGHT THE REFLECTS BADLY AND CAUSES BAD GLARE!!!!
