I think Apple is indicative of many things that annoy me. People seem to insist that Apple products are better, because they are Apple! I have every confidence they are well-made and people seem to think their money is well spent, which is what matters, right?

I can imagine that every year [or two. I don't know], people get excited for the latest iPhone, and try to figure out how to get one. Do they necessarily know whether the specs are better than the previous model or compared to Android? It is new and pretty and an Apple.

What else matters?

If I was a genius, I think I could figure out a better way to make a living than sitting in a store dealing with irate customers all day. Come to think of it, I have figured out a better way to make a living - maybe I'm a genius after all :-)

They also have Guru's, I believe, and those people work from home. When genius isn't enough, it takes a guru, apparently.

I offer six (6) articles on the current state of Information Technology that I thought were worthy of discussion; and some get triggered over the "yabba dabba doo!" system beep.

Windows wasn't viable until v3.1x in 1992. It's features? A white cursor with a black border and a menu bar at the top of every window, not just for the active one at screen top.

I've never owned an iMac for exactly the reason you describe. I know an [ex-]Guru. He's moved on to Electrical Geodesics. The brain scan people.

Apple do in fact have stores.

pau&bernat: apple store_5th avenue_ny

As you can clearly see.

Windows is viable?

PS: By 1992, I had X on most of the machines I was working with (not counting the IBM mainframes), and DOS worked ok for PC stuff. A couple of years later Linux became available, and I never looked back.

Oh, look a picture of a round-cornered rectangle! Pardon while I suppress my mirth.

After Jalopnik's winter holiday, I am keeping up-to-date, hoping to find something interesting to share here. I found an article about Kodak creating their own cryptocurrency, their stock went up 60%, and someone commented: "Kind of funny that a washed up company mentions blockchain/crypto and its stock increases over 100%, while a highly profitable business that is one of the leaders in blockchain (IBM) keeps struggling to stay level." https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/9/16...er-stock-price

You go to Jalopnik for financial advise? This was reported in The Verge and elsewhere:

Or were you trying to change the subject from Windows™?

They mostly have car news, so I look for that, but they link to their partner sites, which was where I read about Kodak, but if you are obsessed with windows, the windows in that Apple store are cracking from the cold: SkyscraperPage Forum - View Single Post - CHICAGO | General Developments

I suspected it was the partner sites.

I'm obsessed with Windows NOR Apple. Spectre is a major IT issue.

Understanding The Meltdown And Spectre Exploits: Intel, AMD, ARM, And Nvidia

https://thehackernews.com/2018/01/me...erability.html

The vulnerability is based on Speculative_execution. I think Qualcomm is being swept up in it. Intel's fix is bricking AMD boxen. Apple post-Jobs is pretty much dead to me. The Core Duo and Zeon processors aren't vulnerable, just Haswell and later.
