Pick Your Poison - Whose gas to buy?

i'm stuck with a mobil station =\ . its the only ones, them and texaco, in my area. and the mobils usually around 5-10 cents cheaper than the texaco.

This link has some great info about gasoline and its additives, and makes note of the fact that companies trade base gasoline all the time. It doesnt become your brand of choice until the additives are put in. By the time the gas gets to the station its nearly impossible to tell where the oil originated from, making it impossible to say you wont use a company because they use so-and-so's oil.

That said, I normally fill up on chevron since its a top tier fuel and right around the corner from my house. Away from home, any top tier brand will do.

If an effort to establish a more efficient route I also changed gas stations. I went from BP to Texaco. I am on my first tank, so I can't wait to see what my car does with it.

Anyhow, at the Texaco pump I noticed it said now with Techron, which is the additive that Chevron uses. Does that mean that one has bought the other out? And now I can use my Chevron card @ Texaco?

They merged about 8 years ago.

Chevron helped kill the electric car.

California's 1990 ZEV mandate forced GM and other auto makers to produce Battery Electric cars such as the GM EV1. GM purchased control of the patents from the inventor, Stan and the late Iris Ovshinsky, in 1994 forming "GM Ovonics" under the guise of going into production with the EV1. But GM's Andy Card had been fighting Electric cars for years, and GM's true intention became apparent when on Oct. 10, 2000, GM agreed to sell their control of the EV batteries to Texaco. Less than a week later, on Oct. 16, 2000, only days after Texaco acquired control of the batteries, Chevron agreed to purchase Texaco in a $100 billion merger. Chevron announced the merger even though the GM sale of the batteries to what would become Chevron did not close until July 17, 2000. Perhaps Chevron wanted this sale to be announced prior to the merger so it would not look like Chevron (formerly Standard Oil of California) worked directly with GM. > >>

I fill up at a pilot near my work. Mostly conoco/bp around here...some small companies like Codies/Kum&Go's etc.

I buy as much of my gas as possible from Southwest Gas, who are supplied by 46 completely domestic gas producers, half of which originate entirely within the state of arizona.

And then I buy as much fuel ethanol as I can, though there aren't nearly enough stations here in Phoenix.

Pity I have to usually go out of my way to buy fuel that isn't petroleum

I did buy my gas from BP, but now I go to Mobile cause of the latest BS. Really does it matter though. Aren't they all evil?
