True enough. I figured I don't run much risk of breaking them since the most the engine can put out is 69 HP and I doubt I'll ever ask it to.

Not so much concerned about the Massive Powa, just the 90+ mph coasts that can happen in the mountains. High speed vibration and such, but even then, it might not be a real issue.

I would shove some MIGHTY PUTTY or something down the sleeves before capping each end of the sleeves off with welds. Without the putty part, is that how you were going to do it? Another idea would be to drill into the core of each end of the cut i the axle and put a centering pin in there. I don't think you could do this accurately by yourself though, at least without a drill press.

I really do think the sleeves will be able to keep things relatively straight, but if they don't I suppose I'll be shopping for ideas again.

Are the sleeves going to go on the outside of the axle rods? If they are, the longer the axle section that fits into it, the better chance you have of them being straight.

I didn't get any measurements from you concerning them, so I can't say for sure.

2-3" should be sufficient, especially if they're close to an interference fit.

You could have had them machined so that they were a few .000's interference, then heat the sleeves before installing them, and that would pretty much guarantee that after welding, nothing would go anywhere.

Indeed, on the outside. The short one is 2.5" and the long is 3.5"
