I don't think this will help any of the forum members besides myself, but just in case there is someone else in the area that I'm not aware of, Southern States in Russellville, KY has alcohol free gas. I filled my '88 Escort up there Saturday night to see what kind of effect it would have on my mileage. The cost was $ .08 a gallon more, but if I can get an extra MPG it will actually save me money.

If you know of a station in your area that sells pure gas feel free to post it here so others can benefit.

What was the octane rating?

They have three grades. I think the octane ratings were 87, 89, and 91, but I'm not sure of that.

I recently found a conveniently located station that sells ethanol free gas. Cost is $3.72, as of yesterday, vs. $3.65 at the cheapest regular station.

I do drive economically, with good result. Over the last 41,000 miles, my average mileage is 17.67 MPG (yes, there's an app for that!). My last 4 tanks have been ethanol free, about 1000 miles. MPG for those has been 20.35, 19.33, 20.15, and 19.97 MPG.

I'm paying 2% more for 13% increase in MPG. http://forum.ecomodder.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

And this is in a full size Dodge Ram V8 pickup.

YMMV, but it's worth a try.

I did some experimenting last month.

2 about E30 tanks averaged about 28.4 mpg at $3.00 a gallon (2.59 E85, 3.45 E10) about $0.105 per mile.

2 tank average on E0 = 31.97 mpg and $0.111/mile

3 tanks average on E10 = 31.3 @ 3.60 gallon = $0.115/mile

Gas & E85 has gone up since the first blended tanks so I should normalize it to a single days prices. But either way cost per mile is pretty much the same for my 1998 Stratus.

A-B test: 4 tanks of E0 at 34.6 MPG average. Previous 4 tanks of E10 at 32.5 MPG. Need to do another few tanks of E10 to make it conclusive, but it looks like a 6.5% increase, and the station I found (Grange in Issaquah) doesn't charge any more than the Shell & Chevron right next door.

Here in Canada all premium fuel is pure gasoline with the only exception being mohawk/husky gas stations. I think all this ethanol polluted fuel is actually contributing MORE greenhouse gases to the environment for a number of reasons. First off less mileage,energy required to seed,grow,ship,distill,ship,blend,ship. I think I got the order right. How about what it now costs for foods that include corn as an ingredient. And honestly if the government didn't subsidize the cost of production it would be unaffordable to the consumer. Let's call ethanol a learning experience and move on. Stop spending any more money on it and perhaps try investing in new ideas

...FYI a lot of the 89 octane fuels sold are just 83 octane with full 10% ethanol, so are actually E10 = G90.

...only the 93 octane fuel (so far) is pure gasoline (E0 = G100), at least here in AZ.
